Privacy Policy

Draft, not yet reviewed by a lawyer. This page describes how WorklikeGenie actually works today, in plain language. It is a starting point for the company's own legal review, not a substitute for it.

What this policy covers

This policy covers two different things, kept deliberately separate: (1) this public marketing website (worklikegenie.com) that anyone can browse, and (2) the WorklikeGenie application that a company's own distributors and retailers log in to. The two handle data very differently, described below.

The application: your data stays in your own database

WorklikeGenie is built as "bring your own cloud" (BYOC). When a company sets up WorklikeGenie, it connects its own PostgreSQL database and its own file storage bucket. Every invoice, order, bill, partner record and uploaded file for that company lives there -- not in a database WorklikeGenie owns or controls.

  • When a user opens a dashboard, the application reads from the company's own database in real time.
  • We do not copy, duplicate or retain a second copy of that business data on our own infrastructure.
  • The only thing stored centrally, on our own control-plane database, is an encrypted connection pointer (the database and storage credentials needed to reach the company's own systems) plus account-level records (who's a user, which company they belong to, login history).
  • Connection credentials are decrypted in memory only for the duration of a single request and are never cached beyond it.
  • One company's data is never visible to another company using WorklikeGenie.

Account and login data

For every user we create an account record: name, email, company, role, and a securely hashed password (never stored in plain text). A session cookie keeps you signed in; a second small cookie remembers which company you have active if you work with more than one. Password resets are sent by email through Resend, a transactional email provider -- the reset link itself is single-use and expires after one hour.

AI features (the "Genies")

Forecasting, suggested orders, Ask Genie and the competition-analysis research use the company's own billing, stock and hierarchy data to generate answers and estimates. Where a feature researches external information -- the Competition Analysis Genie's market-size estimate, and the Store Locator Genie's nearby-store search, which uses the Google Places API -- that happens for the company's own benefit and is not shared with other companies.

This website (worklikegenie.com)

When you simply browse this marketing website, without logging in, we collect much less:

  • Analytics. If enabled, we use Google Analytics (GA4), which sets cookies to measure page views and general usage patterns. We use this in aggregate to understand which pages are useful, not to identify you individually.
  • Demo requests. If you fill in the "Book a demo" form, we collect the email, name, company and message you provide, store it, and email our own team so we can follow up with you.
  • Search Console verification. A single static file in our site verifies ownership with Google Search Console. It does not collect or transmit any data about visitors.

Who we share data with

We use a small number of service providers to run WorklikeGenie, each only for the purpose described:

  • Vercel -- hosts this application and website.
  • Resend -- sends transactional emails (password resets, login credentials, demo-request notifications).
  • Google (Analytics, Search Console, Places API) -- website analytics, search indexing, and the Store Locator feature.
  • Your own database and storage provider -- wherever you chose to host them under the BYOC model above.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers.

How long we keep data

Business data (invoices, orders, bills and the rest) stays in the company's own database for as long as the company keeps it there -- that is entirely under the company's control, not ours. Account records are kept for as long as the account is active. Demo requests are kept so our team can follow up and for our own records of interest in the product.

Your choices

You can ask us what account data we hold about you, and ask us to delete your account, by writing to hello@worklikegenie.com. For data inside a specific company's own database, that company controls it directly.

Changes to this policy

We will update the date at the top of this page when this policy changes. Significant changes will be communicated to active customers directly.
