Retailer Billing Software

Last updated 6 November 2026 · By Manish Purohit, Founder

Retailer billing software lets a small shop bill customers from a phone -- by scanning a barcode or searching a product -- without a separate computer or till system. It's for retailers who currently bill on paper, or not at all, and want a record of every sale without buying dedicated point-of-sale hardware.

This is tertiary billing: a retailer billing the end consumer. It sits alongside primary billing (company to distributor) and secondary billing (distributor to retailer) as the third and final tier of the channel.

The problem

A retailer who bills on paper, or not at all, leaves the whole channel blind to real consumer demand -- the company and distributor only ever see what was billed to the retailer, never what the retailer actually sold through. Dedicated point-of-sale hardware solves this for a large store, but is overkill and often unaffordable for a small shop doing a handful of bills a day.

How WorklikeGenie does it, step by step

  1. Scan or search. Scan a product's barcode with the phone's camera, or search by name/code for anything without one.
  2. Add to the bill. Catalogue products and non-catalogue items can sit on the same bill.
  3. Price defaults to MRP. The rate charged is the final price by default, matching normal FMCG retail -- tax as a separate line is a toggle, not forced on.
  4. Record the payment mode. Cash, UPI, card or credit, against each bill.
  5. Reprint any past bill from the same device, rather than it being a one-time, unrecoverable event.

What you see in the portal

Example
A retailer scans three products, adds one non-catalogue item by hand, the bill totals ₹1,240 at MRP, recorded as paid by UPI. The company and distributor later see this bill as part of the retailer's tertiary billing history, without the retailer having to report it separately.

Who it suits

Small to mid-size retailers in an FMCG or similar consumer-goods channel who currently bill on paper or not at all, and distributors/companies who want real tertiary sales data instead of guessing from secondary billing alone.

How this compares with billing by hand

Paper or no billing

  • No searchable record of what was sold
  • Nothing visible to the company or distributor
  • Pricing/tax applied inconsistently by memory
  • A lost receipt book is a lost history

With WorklikeGenie

  • Every bill recorded, reprintable from the device
  • Tertiary data visible up the channel automatically
  • MRP-default pricing, consistent every time
  • Payment mode recorded per bill

Frequently asked questions

Does it work offline?
No -- honestly, not yet. Billing needs an active connection; it isn't built to queue bills offline and sync them later. Worth knowing before you plan a store with unreliable signal around it.
Does the customer get a bill link to look up their receipt?
Not currently. There's no public bill link or QR code for a customer to view their own bill -- the retailer can reprint it from their own device instead.
Can one retailer bill for more than one company?
Yes -- a retailer working with several companies on WorklikeGenie switches between them from a single login, each company's catalogue and pricing kept separate.
Does it handle tax the way FMCG retail actually sells?
Yes -- the rate charged defaults to the final price (MRP), the same as a normal FMCG retail sale. Tax as a separate line is a toggle, not forced on by default.
What if a product doesn't have a barcode?
Search it manually by name or code, or add it as a non-catalogue item alongside catalogue products on the same bill.
Is this a phone app to install?
It runs in a phone's web browser -- no app store install required.
